The spread of infectious disease through food and beverages is a common and sometimes life-threatening problem; approximately 76 million people suffer foodborne illnesses each year. Because safe preparation and handling of food is crucial to preventing such illnesses, preventing foodborne illness is everyone’s responsibility. It is essential that both developmental disability support staff and the people they serve understand and follow safe food handling procedures.
